We were approached by eco-friendly toilet roll brand Who Gives A Crap (WGAC) to produce packaging for their personalisation campaign. The idea was to allow customers to choose from 16 different designs for a pack of three toilet rolls, personalised with their choice of text.
The aim was for the campaign to be live before Father’s Day, so with a tight deadline of just three months this required a quick turnaround. WGAC are a Certified B Corporation, and their whole brand is built around sustainability, so we needed to keep this in mind too.
The team at WGAC had previously approached other printers who weren’t able to take on their challenge. Fortunately, we love pushing boundaries and doing what others can’t. Following the appointment of our Innovation Director, we’ve dedicated the last two years to our cutting-edge Innovation Centre with high specification equipment. This ensures we remain at the forefront of industry advancements and sector trends. Our Innovation Centre has allowed us to work on unique and bespoke projects for our clients. We pride ourselves on being able to tackle challenging projects and customised work.
This project demonstrates our creative use of substrates and was particularly challenging due to the weight of the inks and the creasing that can occur. Plenty of time was spend experimenting with trimming and folding to ensure the finished product looked presentable.
We managed to source a lightweight stock that we could wrap around a toilet roll, and created colourful designs within strict brand guidelines that were suitable for this particular print process. The paper we chose was EDIXION 60gsm. This stock is environmentally friendly – ECF pulp, FSC® certified, and EU Eco label with a Green Star rating – 4, which aligns with WGAC’s sustainability credentials.
We not only handled the design, print and fulfilment elements of the project – we also built a microsite powered by Shopify to allow customers to place their orders. This e-commerce platform features iFrame technology to harness bespoke personalisation tools using a live preview. Then, at the point of customer check out, the order details and print ready artwork is generated and exported. This order is pushed into our automated production workflow for printing, passed to the finishing department and then enters our fulfilment process. Outer box assembly then takes place to which we add a branded WGAC sticker. Using artwork barcodes we generate shipping labels for dispatch to the customer, which sets off an email notification or SMS to let them know it’s on its way. Our quick and streamlined workflows allow us to take orders until 7pm for next day delivery.
We were successful in getting the campaign live for Father’s Day in order to offer the perfect quirky gifting option for the person who has everything!
